NEW ALBUMS FOR 2018

In September Enja Records will release a double CD commemorating the three-day Mike Westbrook Music Festival in Catania, Sicily in 1992. Based on recently discovered tapes of the concerts, the album captures the Orchestra and guests on top form, in a progrmme of Westbrook ‘classics’ - many of them never before heard on record.
The Lou Gare and Catania albums are partly funded by a patronage scheme whereby patrons are invited to buy one or both of the albums in advance and are credited in the CD booklet.

Mike Westbrook solo piano
After a solo concert in Zurich on November 29th, in the Unerhōrt Festival Mike went on to play a concert at 19 rue Paul Fort in Paris. This is the venue, with the same Steinway, at which he recorded his PARIS album in 2016. At the suggestion of Werner Uehlinger, of Hat Hut Records, as a follow-up to that album, this concert was recorded . The new album STARCROSS BRIDGE will be released in the autumn on the HatOLOGY label.
Kate Westbrook’s new ensemble will be in the studio in Bristol either side of Easter, recording her new album GRANITE. Joining Kate will be Roz Harding saxophones, Jesse Molins and Matthew North guitars, Billie Bottle bass guitar, Coach York drums and Mike Westbrook piano. The album will be produced at dBs studios Bristol, by Jay Auborn assisted by Callum Godfroy. The GRANITE project is funded with financial assistance from Frank Eichler, who commissioned the new piece, and by Airshaft Trust.
GRANITE is a Dartmoor-inspired work, with texts by Kate and music by Mike. GRANITE will be premiered on June 21st in Ashburton, Devon as part of the Dartmoor Resonance Music Festival. The album will be launched that evening.
