The Unexpected Label
In 1975 Werner Uehlinger founded Hat Hut, which became the leading European label for avant - garde music rooted in American free jazz. Werner sold the name Hat Hut Records and the products after 50 years to Melanie Imhof-von Orelli and Marco von Orelli. AlAy Ltd is the new name for the company. The new series named thingamajig, references particular artists in a series of specially selected recordings, remastered by Michael Brändli, using the latest digital-technology.

“Westbrook’s performances explore timbre, space and time - a journey where the listener navigates an aural world with patience and curiosity. A testament to the lasting power of improvisation and the boundless possibilities of the piano in the hands of an artist who dares to think outside the box.”
Pierre Giroux, New York City Jazz Record
“Westbrook’s playing is intimate, restrained, reflective, and deceptively simple, moulding disparate sources into a beautiful and beguiling whole.”
Barry Witherden, BBC Music Magazine
“Echoes of Albert Ayler and many other musicians who lived in the 20th and 21st centuries and contributed to the joy of jazz.”
